Music

After looking at other Chick Flick opening sequences we knew that we needed to find a pop song for our opening sequence that was upbeat, cheery and fun. Another problem that we had was that we were not allowed to use copyrighted music! When we found our about this rule we had to throw all of our ideas out of the window since we were thinking of using popular, well known songs; our main idea was to use "Maneater" by Nelly Furtado because the lyrics suit the plot of the film and Naomi's character, as well as being upbeat and the kind of song a girly teenage girl would play in her bedroom.

Since we had to find music which was copyright free, Carolina went on a website we had been told about by Mr Roberts, mobygratis.com. She made an an account on this website and searched through pages after pages of free music to try and find one that may suit our film. Unfortunately there was not much information about the genre of the songs and names of the tracks on this website didn't give much insight into how the song would sound which meant that it was a very time consuming process listening    to each track. MobyGratis turned out to not be very helpful since most of the songs sounded very thriller-like and sic-fi.

In the next lesson, Carolina and I went onto another website that Sir had suggested, freeplaymusic.com and spent some time on there trying to find a song which could fit our opening. This website was quite unsuccessful as well so we gave up. Instead we went onto youtube and tried searching for songs that were copyright free which we could use. There were a few ones which we found okay but overall it was a waste of our time; espically when we found a song that we all really loved and it turned out that we had to pay $59.99.

After almost losing all hope we decided that we would go one garage band and see if there were any pre-recorded tracks that sounded similar to what we wanted. Luckily after searching through almost 200 tracks, IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER, we found one called Yearbook. It was exactly like something you would hear in a film like American Pie or Sydney White (both good romcoms). Unfortunately it was only a 30 second track but we were lucky since Caroline is in our group and she is a pro at music! She went onto garage band and was able to trim and merge the clips together to make one which was over 2 minutes long.

After thinking that we had found our great track, Sir came over and told us that he was looking at tracks on freeplaymusic.com and came across one which we might like called Clear. When we listened to it it was, unfortunately, really good! So we were even more confused becuase now we dont know which song we want for our opening sequence.

We have decided that we are going to keep both tracks and when we have finished editing our film we will see which one works best with the footage and keep that one.
